Macoroni and ketchup. Charlie and Sara. Me and bed. Some things should never be split up.

go here now!!!
just talked to ivan and it looks like there is some mad performance art going down at the airport tomorrow evening. i am shaking in these boots of mine. art+music+airport=fun+trouble. hopefully fun>trouble, but i am happy either way. more news when it comes in.
erin from mabel is gonna teach me how to play violin tonight! all at once! no stops!

Hello everybody. I'm at my fake job right now. I do things like organize tapes and hook up answering machines. Right now I'm doing the ever important "nothing." As long as they keep paying, you'll here no complaints from me. Last night a bunch of us from the Doty Circle went bowling and then to the Echo Tap. Charlie got super trashed and talked a lot about his bowels. Back to work. Only 50 minutes left. It's hell. And by hell I mean heaven.

The Tron Solow household has aquired a swimming pool and nate, craig, and I went over and tested the waters. It may be only kiddie swimming pool but it sure packs a mean punch. we also played some GTA3--the greatest video game ever made by humans. I think those tron solow guys are a little too trusting; they left us all alone in their house with a fridge full of beer and PS2 games galore. Maybe we have some sort of mutual understanding. Mi casa su casa. That's spanish.
so, i need something to do, so if anyone who reads this blog wants to trade mixtapes drop me a line. yeah.
I got it in the band email. It rocks! Did you know that Keyser Soze lives right down the street?
I received an e-mail from Rick Pendzich(also known as Rick Bixby) last night. It is a photoshop rendition of the usual suspects with Dpc members faces placed on the characters. Ian is Benicio del Toro, Craig Kevin Spacey, Matt kevin Pollack(explosives expert), nate as Stephen Baldwin, and me as Gabriel Byrne. I e-mailed this picture to Ian but I think that rick sent it to the band e-mail as well. It is the coolest picture ever made by a human being please contact me if you want to see this rad version of contemporary art. I also start my play tonight that runs jun 25-29th. It should be good because the right arms are the characters. It is called The Mystery of Irma Vep. I can't wait to play next week because of a possibility that they're may be new songs played in the very new future. Oh yeah the show last saturday rocked and FDF and Saving Face were cool as ice(this phrase was lended to me by Vanilla Ice).

Monday, May 27, 2002

I watched the entire Twin Peaks series last year instead of studying for spring finals. I don't want to go into a rant at this point in the day, but you remember episode two, where Cooper is throwing the stones at the bottles in an attempt to find the identity of the killer? Yeah, that is the best part of the series. Especially when you are on the verge of falling off a futon. In conclusion: Driftless Pony Club -> DPC Damn Fine Coffee -> DFC. Not a coincidence.
uncertainties: exact date of returnee.
certainties: still sick. though perhaps on the upward stroke of the internal warzone battle?

fact: first taste of beer to hit thy legal tongue, sun may 26 1:23am. Blatz. (i hope the donor of the sip does not contract thy illness, after claiming to have had it prior to..could this just be a lie to cause me to fold?) so titilating. so sweet. so succulent.....a truly stellar beer.

I hope somone from FIVE DOLLAR FOUNDATION reads this:
I want to clarify my previus statement.
I didn't mean to insinuate that fdf couldn't get signed to a major label--I think it's very possible--but I don't think the lack of such a deal is grounds for breaking up. I like fdf and I want them to continue playing into the far future. I really don't know the whole situation. maybe the situation is just a rumor.
I'm just a simple man trying to make his way in the universe.
i got our first issue of tape op in the mail on thursday. it's pretty cool- although people tend to mention recording jargon that boggles the mind. art mogul g. perkins tipped us off to it. the subscription is free, so sign up. there seems to be some kind of intense dispute about steely dan going on within the tape op reader base...
Driving all the way from Penn State to play with Five Dollar Foundation and Saving Face was well worth it. It was a great show. We had our friend, Katy, tape it for us and we watched it this morning and I think it was one of our best performances despite some guitar difficulties. I've never seen Saving Face before but they were good and they rocked the house with some old style rap. In my opinion, FDF played one of their best shows. They really rocked. I hope their tour goes well and I hope that all this talk of them breaking up after this summer if they don't get signed to a major label is a joke. How could they be serious about that?
rodst < boss
not only did my bandmates wuss out and stop partying at 2 in the morning, they have sunk to new lows in blogging. last night's show at electric earth went really well, despite ian breaking his equipment during the show instead of after it. we watched the video of it this morning and i am happy that our onstage antics have improved. once again, we ran into the problem of some people showing up directly after we finished playing. they just don't believe us when we say 'show at 9'. saving face and five dollar foundation were pretty good, with fdf busting out the eddie money cover at the end. thanks to alicia and erin for the drinks. tell my bandmates that waking up at 4:30 to drive in from penn state is no excuse to skimp on the partying. boss.
whew whew. I'm tired.
whew, i'm tired.

Happy birthday Janel, from Craig and M. And also, Chad and Wells. Stop being so sick damnit!
It's tough being a drunk in Penn State.
I miss you guys
Matt and I are in Penn State right now, but don't fret. We'll be back in Madison before the show, unless we die. NYC was great, see ya.
phase three of operation "clean the fuck out of my bathroom" was accomplished today with the purchase of handsoap, toothpaste, shampo, and liquid plumber. someday, this will the be the cleanest bathroom. ever. come to electric earth for tomorrow's show and i'll tell you even more about how clean (comparatively) my bathroom is.
We went to see Charlie perform last night at the Comedy Club. His Andy Kaufmenesque pleased everyone, as did his Speedo. I've spent my entire day so far writing up a resume. Why do they want a resume for a filing job? I feel supremely worthless.

Does anyone else think the new Breeders album kinda bites?
There has been concerns about my staying home this week. Concern 1: Nate is not safe by himself. Response: While I do have a long history of self-injury, I have reduced my risk by rarely leaving my bed. Concern 2: Nate is not having fun by himself. Response: This was an initial problem, but by venturing beyond my porch to other porches on Doty Street I have come into contact with other people. These before unknown neighbors are very nice and have made sure fun is had every night. This is ground zero for the scene.

had a good time tonight. cleaned some bathroom. grilled out with tron & friends. went on an "expedition". the warehouses at the end of doty street are very dusty! that's the kind of good old fun that used to happen before i found out about alcohol.
I have not blogged in what seems like ages but here goes. Mabel kicked some serious ass on a sunday evening and we followed with our cover version set. El Scorcho had everybody from our tiny little world chanting, "God damn you half japanese girls!!!" Steve from Mabel received a burned lipbut he rocked anyways. This saturday we are playing with five dollar foundation so the show should kick some serious ass! Nate broke my elbow with his jump from behind the drums antics and Ian was close to heaven with the whole benadryl thing. Overall the weekend rocked and the DPC stage show has been in full swing. Watch us if you can Saturday and bring your friends because Ian will be there sporting his new early 90's hairdo for all the ladies.

Tuesday, May 21, 2002

matt: i'm cleaning the mold off of our bathroom walls and ceiling. to make it equal, i suggest you clean the bathroom where you are staying as well. then you can take a chemical spray down like bruce willis in twelve monkeys.
as matt as already told you, i pulled an ian at the show on sunday night and accidently broke my stuff and marcus. as you might have gathered, matt and craig are in new york this week, and janel is at home sick and will not be celebrating her 21rst birthday in madison. that leaves only ian and i as doty street residents. ian has a job and needs to go to bed early, so nate is trying to stage a one person party this week. with the help of our neighbors, last night was successful. this rest of the week is looking to be not so successful. argh.

Monday, May 20, 2002

whew...i almost went into stasis yesterday. i missed everything after i left that party, only to wake up some hours later when my bandmates came home. i think it was 2:45 in the morning. i moved my car wearing my pajamas!
I also cut my finger in the same damn place I always cut it when I play bass. I'm a creature of habit.

Now, off to NYC. In the words of a Sim that's having fun, "Wooooohooooooo!"
Last night's festivities were terribly exclusive.
First, an elite group of band members and close, personal friends gathered for some grilled food. Ian almost died becuase he was allergic to the cat in the house and then he almost died again by mixing benadryl and alcohol.
Mabel kicked the bitch in the balls with one of there most rocking shows ever. Actually, thye have rocked hard for their last two shows. I don't know what it is. Maybe they just turned their instruments up.
DPC played after them and we generously poured our drunken souls all over the unsuspecting audience. here's a list of casualties: Nate broke his bass pedal during the set but he was able to fix it. Later he broke his snare head. Nate also broke Marcus by jumping over the drum set onto his back. I bruised my arm somehow. We still have to pick up our equipment.
Comsomol Diaries was at the show and i think we made tenatative diplomatic ties with them. we'll see. we'll see.
I don't anyone else has taken the star wars personality test!

Saturday, May 18, 2002

I just went to and took the star wars personality test! I'm a Yoda in openess, a Han Solo in conscientiousness, an Obi-Wan in extraversion, An Emperor Palpatine in agreeableness, and a C3P0 in neuroticism.
Everyone should come to Ian's, Marcus's, and my home town of Marshall to watch us play for the kiddies. Ah, to be young again.

Friday, May 17, 2002

hey everyone.
how's it going? i just wanted to announce that i am leaving the band. my new band, "Ian's a Rodman", is my biggest priority right now...
Thanks a lot Ian. My mom just died. Not funny. Not funny at all... your mom didn't think so either.
hey everyone.
how's it going? i just wanted to announce that i am leaving the band. my new band, "craig's mom's", is my biggest priority right now...
Threepio?? Where could he be??
I saw Attack of the Clones as well. Actually I sat very close to Craig. But to quote Threepio, "I'm beside myself."
I saw Attack of the Clones last night. To quote C3PO "This is such a drag."
hey everyone.
how's it going? i just wanted to announce that i am leaving the band. my new band, the Wilhelms, is my biggest priority right now...

man! i'm working for the man. alliant sure has hit the big time... "world headquarters"
Five Dollar Foundatin asked us to play with them. Yee-ha! In less good news, the phone still hasn't rung, damnit! People should have nothing better to do than call me.

Tuesday, May 14, 2002

of the unfortunates: i am dreadfully sick right now and could barely give a flying fuck about art history.
I also got a new room today. But mine is a sweet-ass studio space on East Washington that will soon be the creative center of all Madison. It will probably be the surrogate Catacombs for this summer. I am superstoked. This summer, it's on!
ME TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I GOT MY OWN ROOM NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it has come to my attention that Ian was present at the party those pictures of sleeve were taken at. he's just outside of the frame . . . as usual.
Where's the rest of the band? I've never seen so many pictures of one guy.
If you go to the west wash blog, there a bunch of pictures of sleeve posted.
some are pretty up close and personal.
Two questions come to mind: Is this a joke? Why did they take all those pictures of sleeve?
maybe it was his birthday.
go to bed

Monday, May 13, 2002

huh, where am i?

Sunday, May 12, 2002

also, ian looks like that guy from kadenc now.
6 hours later and i've only finished one page of my paper. what's wrong with me? also, i am considering an entire High Fidelity style ex-girlfriends calling ordeal because i've got a bone to pick. who cares about darwin and lamarckian evolution when there are bones to pick? i don't. why tonight? i just don't know. anyways, everything worked out for rob in the end, right? of course, he also dated catherine zeta-jones and got wickedly dumped. continuing to peel the labels of these beer bottles.

i am bleaching my hair right now! holy shit!

I command thee to write 5 to 6 pages on society's reasons for constructing great scientists and turn it to Blair Nelson. Commence!
I finally caved in and got Donnie Darko on DVD yesterday...most excellent. The director's commentary makes part of the movie much clearer, but also adds several very confusing ideas. I guess I have all summer to figure it out tho. Tomorrow evening is the start of summer for me, provided I can get that far. Boss.
Happy Mother's Day!!!!!!

Saturday, May 11, 2002

looks like it is time to do laundry for the first time in three weeks. i am wearing one white sock and one argyle sock...
just saw Grickle Grass at the Anchor Inn. Damnit! They're sooooooooooooo great. Everyone should hear them, now! Stop what you're doing. Hey! Stop it! Stop reading this. Go download Grickle Grass. I've pretty much decided that I love them more than life. So, instead of living, I'm going to be Grickle Grassing. But you shouldn't know that because you should've stopped reading by now like I told you.

while watching spiderman at University Square 4 theatre, Craig was unknowingly bit by a radioactive Matt Weber. He has now become Weberman, a mutant super hero with the amazing ability to grow sideburns and play average keyboard and guitar. He has achieved a knowledge of dinosaurs that beats most encyclopedias. And he can walk away in the middle of a conversation, no questions asked.
"i'm so cold, i'm so cold...."
it's 44 degrees out right now. time to take two tests and turn in a final project.
numerous parka butta spots for alotted sleep at any given time!

Thursday, May 09, 2002

As Matt has pointed out, the pipe bomber was from Minnesota, and his band Apathy played in Rochester and recorded at the good old Studio Academy. It's nice to know that someone from home has made a name for himself. Maybe the second Rochester comp CD will actually be worth something now.

Wednesday, May 08, 2002

he doesn't even blog!
ok guys. That bomber kid from rochester is in a band called Apathy. They are a terrible grunge rock band, but now that he is all over the news, the band is getting free publicity. I propose that one of us starts sending bombs around the country labeled DPC. Tracing the bombs back to one of us, the perpetrator will be promptly arrested, and, simultaneously, driftless pony club will be thrust into the national spotlight. Of course, at least one of us will have to go to jail, but isn't the band worth the sacrifice?
I nominate marcus. he doesn't do anything anyway.
good morning everyone! It's another bright shining day at the doty ranch. The earthmovers are moving earth and the bulldozers are dozing bull. Our water has been turned off because the construction crew has deemed it so. But, I don't fret. What's good for the road construction is good for all. someday doty street will be the greatest road of all; two blocks of immaculate pavement gleeming in the twilight. people will come from miles around to admire Doty street. The city will have to set up a viewing platform because so the people don't block traffic. Doty will be a marvel of human ingenuity and will power. Thousands of years from now, archaeologists will uncover the remains of Doty street and be astonished that we primitive humans with our primitive technology could have constructed something so advanced, yet, at the same time, so beautiful. God bless Doty Street!
long live the new flesh
A) I forgot to mention that I dropped a cinderblock on my pinkie on Saturday. It makes my entire hand rather unpleasent to use. The finger's all swollen up and the entire nail is gaudy purple. I had to drink beer at Mabel's on Saturday with my pinkie in the air.
B) If you want to get me a job for the summer, or even just tell me where to go, I would appreciate it. This band gig isn't quite paying the bills yet.
C) Bakew Bakew!

somebody gave me a cold...

Sunday, May 05, 2002

So starts the DPC's day after. The festivities started yesterday at one, at the house of Adam and Angela on Mifflin Street. We love Adam for generously giving us food and drink throughout the day. Not just any food either, but shishkebabs. We love the Shivers, the first band of the day, for writing good songs. They had a girl drummer - yeah! We love the Saturdays for rocking out. We love the RIght Arms for pushin back the boundaries of modern music yet again. I decided to play bass for the Right Arms about 20 minutes before the show, and I don't really play bass, so I apologize for any bad sounds I created. We played and basically wrecked all our stuff in a tired, drunken state. We love Amanda for helping to put all of this together. It was then time for the 7:00 nap. After naptime, we saw Mabel play Battle of the Bands. We went back to Mifflin Street, where we got to love Adam some more while having a good old time in our private porch party. We love Helena and Kelly for letting us come on the radio. We also love the White Stripes for recording their version of "Jolene", which WSUM has. We love Mabel, not only for their music, but also for their camaraderie. We love Nicole of Perfect Face fame for her endearingly mopey dorkiness. Finally, we love sleep. Give us more of it.
I'm so tired, I haven't slept a wink
I'm so tired, my mind is on the blink
I wonder should I get up and fix myself a drink...

no, no, no!

here's what a fan said. I'm blown away.
Driftless Pony Club
Catacombs Coffeehouse, Madison WI

DPC was better than ever tonight at the Catacombs. Too bad more people weren't there to enjoy it. The crowd was pretty tame, which makes it more difficult to stand in the front and sing along all alone. But the band was great and I enjoyed myself anyway. I think I like Olympia and Agent Starling more and more every time I hear them. And it was cool to hear a "new" song, Pennies. It was of course different than how I remembered it being played solo by Craig. But someone once told me, different isn't bad, different is different. Anyway, I really liked it. I think the song is really funny, so I always laugh when I hear it. But I don't know if other people aren't paying attention or what, cuz it seems like I'm the only one who ever laughs. Maybe people think it's serious, with all the talk about hurting feelings and drugs and dad drinking again. Or maybe it is serious and I'm being rude and insensitive to laugh at it. Shit.

You know when you go see a band, and hear them play a bunch of great songs you love but then they stop playing and you have this annoying feeling of dissapointment because you didn't hear ALL the songs? Well, I think that's a sign of a good band if people get dissapointed they didn't hear more. And after DPC stopped playing, I was thinking of all the songs they _didn't_ play... Hit Me (one of my favorites), Movie Song (haven't heard it in awhile), Milk (I love this song!), Half Life, Two Cars, Apartment 10... wow, there's actually a lot of them (and more that I'm just not thinking of).

I'd have to say that my favorite songs of the night were Hey 19, Another Day, and Olympia. I love hearing Hey 19, it's a good song to sing along with. Another Day I always like hearing, and Olympia is really growing on me.

Conclusion: DPC sounded really great tonight. And to top it off, they were followed by 2 really great bands. Attention was awesome and I bought their CD. Shatzi was great as well, and they obviously had better quality equipment/sound. They also had really cool transparent drums with colored lights inside!

Friday, May 03, 2002

tonight's the night, my friends. schatzi, attention, and the dpc are going to rock the catacombs. $five to get in. door at 8:00pm. bring some money to buy our cd as well (four bucks). when the concert is over you can use it to ease your withdrawl symptoms.

Thursday, May 02, 2002

you can drink until 2am at the union. yes, you! when, you say? soon, my friend, soon.

Wednesday, May 01, 2002

I was looking at the show list with Janel. We've decided that the DPC will only play in towns beginning with the letter M. So if you live in a town beginning with M, give us a jingle. We're going to cancel our show in La Crosse and erase any memory of Rochester. Bad apples, man.
whoopty whoop! schatzi made the onion picks of the week, so in turn, so did we. in other news, i went to chicago monday night to see pedro the lion and damien jurado & gathered in song. damien was really rocking. pedro was cool, but they basically played 80% of their new album in order. very creative dave brazan. the old catacombs saab took a hit for the team, dropping a 5 foot length of muffler pipe in the middle of chicago. we were too busy rocking to the white stripes on a crappy car stereo to care.
morning out there in internet land. how's everyone doing? today is a landmark for me. it's the first day that i'm not using capital letters. damn it feels great. life is good. i have tons of shit to do for school and not enough time for a good night's sleep. i hate myself. bye bye :)
